Georgetown Counseling and Wellness' COVID-19 Response

Georgetown Counseling and Wellness is offering video counseling services during the COVID-19 pandemic. As of June 1, 2020, we are offering a limited number of in-person sessions too. Please reach out by e-mail or phone and we are happy to discuss whether video counseling or in-person is the best fit for you, or to schedule an appointment for you or a family member.

We understand that this is an unprecedented and very difficult time, and many members of our community are struggling more with their mental health and feeling uncertain about how to best cope. We have put together a list of common COVID-19 concerns as well as how video counseling can help you or a loved one.

Current concerns you may be experiencing related to COVID-19:

  • Anxiety about when the pandemic will end...will it ever go away?

  • Anxiety about what may happen to your body if you or a loved one get infected with coronavirus

  • Worry about how you can best protect yourself and your family from coronavirus.

  • Feelings of anxiety from the disruption in your daily routine.

  • Experiencing marital strain from being at home together all the time.

  • Feeling stressed by all members of your family suddenly being at home all the time.

  • Worry and stress from losing a job or not knowing if you can maintain financial stability through the pandemic.

Counseling can help you find relief from hard-to-manage feelings and better cope with worries and frustrations related to the pandemic.  Video counseling can have many benefits, including: getting the help you want and need, no travel time to or from the appointment, no need to schedule child or elder care, and doing therapy from the comfort of your own home.

Frequently Asked Questions about video counseling:

  • Can video counseling really help?

    • Yes! Backed by research, video counseling provides a space to gain the same benefits as you would with in-person therapy. Whether therapy is by video or in-person, what matters the most is a person's motivation to engage in therapy and the relationship built with your therapist. When we schedule an appointment, your therapist will e-mail you a link to your video appointment, and you simply click on the link at the start of the appointment.

  • Is video counseling confidential?

    • On our end, we can assure confidentiality. On your end, going to a private room in your house, asking family members to give you space for the hour or going to your car can provide confidential spaces to talk.

  • Does insurance cover video counseling?

    • Yes, BCBS is covering online therapy services

  • How can I schedule a video counseling appointment?

    • It's easy! Just e-mail us or call us for an appointment. You're welcome to also fill out the appointment request form below.
