Georgetown Counseling and Wellness Therapists: Introducing Edwin Ancarana, MA, LPC

Georgetown Counseling and Wellness is a multi-disciplinary group counseling practice in Georgetown, TX. Using proven techniques, we strive to provide well-rounded and high-quality counseling services to children, adults, couples and families in the Georgetown and surrounding communities. Our goal is to partner with our clients to offer support and promote healing, personal growth, and overall improved life satisfaction.

At Georgetown Counseling and Wellness, our mission is to help members of our communities reconnect with the things that are truly important and thrive, both in their own lives and in their relationships. We are extremely proud of the important work we do with our clients, and in the wider community; none of which would be possible without our dedicated and passionate therapists.

In the first of a two-part question and answer series, we sat down with Edwin Ancarana, MA, LPC to find out about his therapy specializations and more.

What Ages Do You Work With?

I primarily work with adults and teens (14 and up), but I don't turn away anyone that needs help.

Who Else Do You Enjoy and Feel Confident Working With?

I like working with couples, veterans, LGBTIQ, and transpersonal/non-conformist populations.

What Is Your Clinical Approach?

My clinical approach is eclectic. I build rapport from an emotion-focused base, then use cognitive/mindfulness, addiction/recovery, trauma, and existential approaches for assessment and treatment. I have specialized training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, SMART Recovery, Non-Violent Communication, Narrative Therapy, and the Gottman Method.

What Can a Client Expect If They Work With You?

Sharing and being vulnerable with another human being takes courage. I honor the courage that each client brings to their work with me. I listen deeply and partner with my clients to hear their stories, create new narratives about life experiences and teach skills for dealing with overwhelming feelings.

What Do You Like About Being a Counselor?

Being inspired every day by my clients' hope and bravery.

Can You Tell Us a Unique Fact About Yourself?

I love renaissance festivals! I met my wife at Texas Renaissance Festival, proposed to her there two years later, and married her in a medieval-themed wedding at Sherwood Forest Faire. I've been a cast member at Sherwood Forest Faire for the last four years.

What Is Your Favorite Quote?

One of my favorite quotes is:

"Only the wounded healer can truly heal."

-Irvin Yalom
