Counseling for Trauma

Compassionate Support for Trauma Processing and Resolution

I offer trauma counseling for individuals ages 17 and up, providing a safe, steady, and collaborative space to work through both recent and long‑standing emotional injuries. Trauma can take many forms, and no two people experience it in the same way. My approach honors your unique story while helping you move toward healing, clarity, and a renewed sense of self.

Understanding Trauma:

Big “T” and Little “t”

Trauma does not have to be catastrophic to leave a lasting impact. Many people carry wounds from experiences that were overwhelming, confusing, or unsupported at the time.

Big “T” Trauma

These are events that are clearly overwhelming or life‑altering, such as:

  • Sudden illness or medical crisis

  • Death or disappearance of a loved one

  • Serious accidents

  • Natural disasters

  • Violence or life‑threatening events

Little “t” Trauma

These experiences may be less obvious from the outside but can deeply affect emotional well‑being, including:

  • Relational or attachment disruptions

  • Emotional injuries from childhood or adolescence

  • Chronic invalidation or criticism

  • Ongoing stressors that accumulate over time

Both forms of trauma can shape how you see yourself, relate to others, and move through the world. Counseling offers a path toward understanding these experiences and reducing their emotional weight.

How Trauma Affects Us

Trauma can influence thoughts, emotions, relationships, and the body. People may experience:

  • Anxiety or hypervigilance

  • Emotional numbness or overwhelm

  • Difficulty trusting others

  • Intrusive memories or avoidance

  • Shame, confusion, or self‑blame

  • Disconnection from one’s identity or purpose

These responses are not personal failures—they are the nervous system’s attempts to cope with overwhelming experiences.

Therapeutic Approaches I Use

There is no one‑size‑fits‑all method for trauma healing. Together, we will choose the approaches that best support your needs, pace, and goals.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing):

A structured, evidence‑based therapy that helps the brain reprocess traumatic memories so they feel less distressing and more integrated.

EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques):

A mind‑body approach that uses gentle tapping on acupressure points to reduce emotional intensity and support nervous system regulation.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT):

A values‑based approach that helps you build psychological flexibility, relate differently to painful thoughts and feelings, and move toward a meaningful life.

A Collaborative, Personalized Treatment Plan

Your healing journey is unique. We will work together to:

  • Identify your goals and needs

  • Establish a treatment plan tailored to your experiences

  • Check in regularly to ensure the plan continues to support your growth

  • Adjust our approach as needed to honor your pace and preferences

Trauma counseling is not about erasing the past—it’s about reclaiming your sense of safety, identity, and possibility. With compassionate support and evidence‑based tools, you can move toward a life that feels more grounded, connected, and whole.
